It’s hip to be square!

This blog is written by me, Sofie Thorsen. I want this blog to inspire the ones that have doubt in pursuing their goals and dreams. I want to show that some things are not as invincible as they at first seem to be. I want everyone to put faith in what they know and more important, in what they want to achieve.
In this blog I will scribble down thoughts and reflections regarding school and work life, and what I’ve learned from four years of studying computer science. My hope is to inspire readers to dare more, for what you want and dream about need not to be very far away If one you just take the chance.

Svenska vs English

Have you been wondering why I’m writing in English? As you may have figured out by now I’m Swedish and I could just as well be writing in my native language. So why bother? Well, besides from the fact that what I write can be read by a larger amount Read more…

Hardships and hardware

I was up early this morning to finish some preparations for a lab session tomorrow. The course is called “Embedded systems” which involves a bit of hardware programming, something I usually don’t fiddle with too much. I’ve been a bit reluctant to dive into this course (even though I chose Read more…

Humans need not apply

One very interesting aspect of computer science is the rapid pace the field is progressing with. Just think about they way habits have changed in only the last few years. With that in mind I watched a video discussing the revolution of robots and it’s really thought provoking. I definitely think it’s worth Read more…

Busy studying

Hey! Long time no see. I’m back in Stockholm and back to school. I thought I would have time to relax as soon as I got home, but as you probably have noticed by now the tempo in school isn’t so forgiving. It’s like I’ve forgotten just how much work Read more…

Embrace the mottagning

It’s only one and a half week until I return to Stockholm and my last year at KTH. Looking back at my first year I identify with Emelie in full. I did not enjoy the first days at all with the silly songs and assignments. It seemed like no one Read more…

Feeling hungry?

Starting to get excited about starting school? Just three weeks to go! If you don’t feel like buying lunch each day, you might have to start thinking about how to plan your cooking. If you haven’t cooked a lot before it might be time to start practising. Myself, I love Read more…

Hacking away

Sorry for the silence, last weekend my mom came and visited and this week I’ve been busy with Microsoft’s hackweek (staying late having fun, hacking and drinking beer!). What is a hackweek? Well, basically it is a week where you put your regular work aside and hack a project together. It Read more…

Weekend coding

Time is flying and I’m now midway through my internship. So far I’ve had a really good time and I truly enjoy working with my team. I’m learning a bunch of new stuff and I’m filled with desire to create on my spare time. To me, that’s a really good Read more…

A day at Cambridge

I’m just back from a field trip to Microsoft Research at Cambridge, and it was truly an amazing day. We got to listen to two really good talks which reminded me of why computer science is so cool. The first one was about type classes in the programming language Haskell, Read more…

Go queue!

I hope you look forward to getting your admission letters tomorrow (if you have applied that is). Just like Mia, I would like to suggest that you think about housing options. I was a bit naive and didn’t apply for the SSSB queue for some time, losing a fair amount Read more…
