It’s hip to be square!

This blog is written by me, Sofie Thorsen. I want this blog to inspire the ones that have doubt in pursuing their goals and dreams. I want to show that some things are not as invincible as they at first seem to be. I want everyone to put faith in what they know and more important, in what they want to achieve.
In this blog I will scribble down thoughts and reflections regarding school and work life, and what I’ve learned from four years of studying computer science. My hope is to inspire readers to dare more, for what you want and dream about need not to be very far away If one you just take the chance.

Hej då

This is the last post I will write for Womengineer – of natural reasons. I have just gotten the passing results for my thesis – and I am now a software engineer. I would like to thank all of you who have read my thoughts and observations during this last Read more…

4 ways to deal with setbacks

We have touched the subject before but it is worth bringing up again – how to deal with setbacks. As you might already know I’m doing my thesis at Spotify, and the last two weeks have been really frustrating. I’ve been trying to evaluate the performance of an algorithm and Read more…

Time to apply!

It’s only two days left to the https://www.antagning.se/ deadline, and if you are hesitating whether you will apply or not, I’d just like to share my thoughts. Why did I apply to Datateknik at KTH? I reasoned about this in my first blog post, and the short answer is – Read more…

Not a celebration, but a reminder

Today is the international women’s day. It is not there as a celebration, but to remind us of the inequalities and problems that still exist today. On this day, I will also remind you of Womengineer’s goal of having as many female as male engineers graduating by 2030 – because Read more…

Thesis in action!

Exactly like Tove, I feel a bit bad about not having written lately. But just like her, a lot of things have happened. The first thing, which is a BIG relief, is that I got passing grades on my final exam. This means that all my courses are done, and Read more…

It’s the end of the world as we know it (and I feel fine)

I’m starting my thesis and my last semester this month. That’s my tenth(!) semester. It feels kind of weird thinking about leaving school for good but at the same time I long for it. A lot of things have happened during these 4.5 years and somewhere I feel like it’s Read more…

Gloomy November came with a bit of sunshine

Just like the other bloggers have mentioned, November has been an energy consuming month and it feels like I’ve just been slowly walking through boring gray days. Fortunately that is not entirely true! I scrolled through my photos on my phone and remembered some golden moments in a gloomy November: Read more…

Performance anxiety

When inspiration runs out. When nothing feels exciting. When reason doesn’t win over emotion. It’s frustrating that negative experiences strikes so hard – but they do. There are people so much more intelligent. More creative. More persistent. I find it hard to deal with sometimes. I want it to be Read more…

Finals

Did I disappear? Fortunately I did not. It’s just finals. And I would like to say that the reason I’ve been quiet is that I’ve been studying ferociously, but it’s more the fact that my last couple of days have been the same: Wake up. Drink coffee. Lay in sofa Read more…

Five questions

In reply to Tove (great idea!) I thought I’d share five facts about me too. So here goes: I’m super sensitive when it comes to noises. I can’t concentrate if someone is flicking their pen, shaking their leg etc during an exam. I actually bring earplugs in order to concentrate. Read more…
